Planning Thru Play Potluck

On December 17th, Moving Matters invited Cook County to share a meal and build their vision of a more walkable, bikeable Cook County. Twenty community members gathered for the “Planning Thru Play Potluck” at the Grand Marais Art Colony. Each person was asked to build their response to the question: “What does a walkable/bikeable community look like?” They were able to build on an 8.5 x 11 inch piece of paper with objects like Legos, small toys, found objects, and more. No drawing allowed! After building, each person had the opportunity to share their ideas and thoughts. Hear a few of these ideas by watching the video below:

Moving Matters is gathering community input and ideas about walking and biking in Cook County, through community events, survey, and conversations. Interesting in sharing your ideas and building a better Cook County? We’ll be hosting several more “Planning Thru Play” events in 2014, so stay tuned!

with Chris Gibbs / Friday, 4 pm
Snowshoes, and skis are not the only ways to travel through the winter woods. Plenty of people are turning to two wheels as a means of winter locomotion: fat tire biking opens up a whole new way to explore winter landscapes. Chris Gibbs, photographer, explorer and fat tire biking enthusiast will introduce the fat tire bike and related equipment and lead a discussion.

For those of you that are already fat tire bike enthusiasts, there is also a fat tire ride this Saturday, November 23rd. Meet at North House Folk School at 11:30, to carpool from there up the Gunflint somewhere.
